Philippine
Nurses Association Switzerland celebrates
20th anniversary through
civic projects in the Philippines
The
Philippine Embassy in Berne reported that the Philippine Nurses
Association Switzerland celebrated its 20th
anniversary in Zürich on 24 September through a fund raising event
that will build classrooms for Bolol Tupi in Cotabato City and a day
care center in Pandan, Antique.
Philippine
Ambassador to Switzerland Leslie J. Baja attended the event which saw
about 120 active and retired Filipino nurses in attendance.
Ambassador Baja commended them for their philanthropic activities and
noted that during the aftermath of typhoon Ondoy in 2009, PNA
Switzerland was one of those Filipino organizations which actively
solicited donations for the typhoon victims.
Filipino
nurses in Switzerland first arrived in the early 1970s and were among
the first migrants from the Philippines. Today, Filipino nurses are
among the most respected medical professionals in Switzerland. The
Embassy has thus embarked on a goal to bring to Switzerland more
Filipino healthcare and other workers under an existing
Philippine-Swiss Agreement on the Exchange of Professional and
Technical Trainees.
