Welcome remarks from Philippine Ambassador Maria Theresa P. Lazaro at the City Ballroom of Swissotel in Zurich.
Philippine Embassy in Switzerland Successfully Organized Filipino Community Night in Zurich
5
June 2010- The Philippine Embassy in Switzerland led by Ambassador
Maria Theresa P. Lazaro organized a Filipino Community Night at the
Swissotel in Zurich last 5 June 2010, in connection with the Philippine
Food Festival held at the same hotel from 2 to 12 June 2010.
The
event attended by about 450 guests was a resounding success. The
Filipinos came from all over Switzerland, including the French and
German speaking cantons. There were official guests from the
Philippine Mission to the United Nations led by Ambassador Evan Garcia
and the Philippine delegation to the International Labor Conference led
by DOLE Undersecretaries Linda Baldoz and Lily
Pineda. It was indeed an experience of the best of
Philippine food, the best of Philippine music, and the best of
Philippine culture.
The exotic Filipino dishes were
prepared by five chefs from Marco Polo Cebu, and the serenade of songs
from Manila based Filipino classical singers,
the tenor Jonathan Badon and soprano Jenny
Aldecoa-Delorino. The Department of Agriculture in Manila also provided
Philippine agri products from dried mangoes to mango wine, among
others. The Philippine Department of Tourism in Frankfurt led by
Director Venus Tan supported the event by providing gift certificates
for overnight stays at luxurious hotels in the Philippines such as
Marco Polo Hotel Cebu, Bellarocca resort in Marinduque, Hyatt
Regency Resort in Boracay, and Fundacion Pacita Lodge in Batanes
as well round trip airfares from Singapore Airlines.
Ambassador
Lazaro, in her address to the community, said that “there are several
reasons for celebrating this evening and that is the commemoration of
our Philippine Independence, the successful conduct of the
Philippine elections, the proclamation of the 15th Philippine President
and the excellent relations between the Philippines and Switzerland.”
