Philippine
Embassy Berne Conducts First GAD Seminar
03 October 2009
The
Philippine Embassy in Berne conducted a Seminar-Workshop on Pre-Peer
Counseling on 3 October 2009 in connection with the Gender and
Development Program of the Department of Foreign Affairs.
Attended by 25 Filipino-Swiss nationals, the workshop was
facilitated by a professional Filipino-Swiss psychologist and Social
Science Professor Ms. Anny Misa-Hefti.
Focused on raising awareness of what Filipinos, particularly women, can
do for themselves and the Filipino community in general, the workshop
received seminal insights from participants that will guide the Embassy
and the group in jointly pursuing common objectives, particularly in
raising the profile of the Filipino community in Switzerland.
The workshop elicited proposals which include creating a
brochure/website containing general information on living in
Switzerland, particularly access to the Swiss immigration, social
security, legal aid and other concerned offices; establishing a core
group of counselors to help the newly arrived migrants, establishing
themselves as possible lobby groups on migrant related issues.
As a follow-up activity, the Embassy will conduct another seminar in November 2009.
Ambassador Maria Theresa P. Lazaro said “that the Gender and
Development program of the Philippine Embassy will help empower the
Filipino community, particularly women, in their integration into the
Swiss society without losing their Filipino identity.”
