TOURISM SECRETARY JOSEPH H. DURANO AT THE OPENING CEREMONIES OF MUBA 2009 IN SWITZERLAND 13
February 2009
MUBA 2009, the largest public trade fair event
held annually in Basel, Switzerland which features numerous
individual exhibitions of national consumer goods, formally opened
its halls to the public at the Exhibitions Center in Basel on 13
February 2009. The Philippines is the featured Guest Country for
MUBA 2009 and is showcasing the country's major exports in products
and services, tourism, culture and arts from 13-22 February 2009.
In his speech at the opening ceremony of
MUBA 2009, Philippine Tourism Secretary Joseph H. Durano captured
his audience as he shared with them the significance of the word
Mabuhay to the Filipino people, which literally means "to
life," and the theme of the catch phrase logo at the Philippine
Pavilion. He said that the Filipinos' zest for life, warm
hospitality, and what the country can offer such as 100% natural
scenery and products, will be experienced and featured at the
Philippine Pavilion. He also thanked the MUBA organizers for
providing the Philippines the unique opportunity of bringing the
Swiss and other Europeans closer to the Philippines. Also present at
the opening ceremony were Swiss Federal Councillor Mme. Doris
Leuthard, Head of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs (FDEA),
and Mr. Guy Morin, President of the Cantonal Government of Basel.
The Department of Tourism headed by
Secretary Joseph H. Durano spearheaded the event in coordination
with the Phil-Swiss Business Council, European Chamber of Commerce
of the Philippines, Philippine Honorary Consulate General in Basel,
and the Embassy of the Philippines in Berne.
