BERNE PE MEETS WITH LOCARNO MAYOR CARLA SPEZIALI

Philippine Ambassador to Switzerland Maria Theresa P. Lazaro met with
Locarno Mayor Mme. Carla Speziali, as Locarno is the site of the 62nd
Locarno International Film Festival to be held from 5-15 August 2009.
Mr. Brillante Mendoza, Cannes Best Director, is a juror for the
Filmmakers of the Present Competition, an important aspect of the
Locarno International Film Festival.
Ambassador Lazaro also
discussed with Mayor Speziali the possibility of sending Filipino
nurses to Locarno under the “Agreement between the Philippines and
Switzerland on the Exchange of Professional and Technical Trainees.”
The Locarno Mayor showed interest as she is also the CEO of one of the
prominent private clinics in Locarno, and in view of the fact that
Filipino nurses are widely respected in Switzerland.
The Swiss-Italian town of
Locarno is located on the northern tip of Lake Maggiore (Lago Maggiore)
in the Swiss canton of Ticino at the foot of the Alps. The people speak
Italian in Locarno, one of the major languages in Switzerland. It is
also one hour away from the Italian border.
